Maybank Renews Sponsorship of ASEAN Ambassador Gavin Green
Maybank has extended its multi-year sponsorship of Gavin Green, the first Malaysian to win the Asian Tour Order of Merit. Green was first appointed as Maybank’s ASEAN Ambassador in 2015 for a three-year commitment. The local bank has now committed to support the homegrown professional for another three years.
Green, who turned professional in 2015, made huge strides in his game across the region in 2017. He took the top spot on the Asian Tour Order of Merit after his maiden victory at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters in October 2017 and three runner-up finishes. The 23-year-old is now the second youngest golfer to win the accolade on the Asian Tour.
Maybank Group President and CEO, Datuk Abdul Farid Alias said, “More than a decade ago, we decided to focus our efforts towards identifying, training and nurturing the best golfing talents we could find in ASEAN. Today, we are starting to see those efforts bear fruit with new and upcoming golfers from Malaysia and the region making waves at an international level.”
“Gavin Green is an example of what we see as an effective talent development initiative where Maybank empowers dedicated, focused and ambitious young talents and help them reach new heights,” he continued.
Green is Maybank’s ASEAN Ambassador and proof of success of the Bank’s focus on developing talent from the ground up.
Maybank is the first financial institution in Malaysia to champion a structured long term development of golf in Malaysia and across the ASEAN region, beginning its support of the game in 2006. Apart from Green, Maybank had previously sponsored local professional golfers Danny Chia and Shaaban Hussin.
In 2014, Green became the first amateur to win on the Asian Development Tour (ADT), and went on to represent Malaysia at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
“It is truly an exceptional honour to continue my longstanding partnership with Maybank as its ASEAN Ambassador in the game of golf. Maybank and Maybank Championship has definitely opened up many doors for me throughout my career as it is a great platform for me to meet other world-class players and represent our beautiful country, Malaysia,” said Green.
The long-hitting Green will also be representing Malaysia in the third instalment of the Maybank Championship which will take place at Saujana Golf and Country Club on the 1st to the 4th of February 2018.
