Tourism Selangor’s Bid to Penetrate Golf Tourism Through Golf Tournament
Tourism Selangor will be organising the 3rd Tourism Selangor Golf Tournament 2021 on the 12th of December at the Bukit Beruntung Golf Club, Rawang; a golf club owned by the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor).
The 18-hole tournament will welcome a plethora of golfers from Selangor’s tourism industry, top management in the private sector, celebrities and expatriate golfers, tournament’s sponsors, golf enthusiasts and members of the media, and representatives from Government-linked Companies (GLCs). It is organised with the vision to strengthen existing or future relations among contesting golfers in a competitive yet enjoyable setting.
The State of Selangor, with an impressive number of 29 golf clubs across the state of which many are award-winning, has a clear route in navigating towards optimal penetration of sports tourism, particularly golf. As the leading and premier golf hub in Malaysia, Selangor is a preferred destination by domestic and expatriate golfers seeking some kick and thrill on the golf course, surrounded by lush greenery.
Mr Azrul Shah bin Mohamad, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor in a statement said, “Tourism Selangor is proud to once again host this inaugural Tournament which has impressively entered its third year of establishment; despite the challenges and glitches which the Covid-19 outbreak has brought upon to the golfing scene these past two years. Golf has emerged as one of the fastest-growing tourism trends, and Tourism Selangor has done an outstanding job with its various initiatives, including hosting the 3rd Tourism Selangor Golf Tournament 2021, following the success of the first and second editions in 2019 and 2020”.
“I hope that by bringing together golfers from the industry, the government and the private sectors, the Tournament will serve as a catalyst towards creating future next-big-things, regardless of the fact that it has been a hard year for all of us due to the pandemic. I assure you it is safe to continue golfing again in Selangor as all of the golf clubs in the state emphasize the implementation of the SOPs. Selangor’s tourism is also beginning to recover and rebuild; having entered Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan”, Mr Azrul Shah added.
The state, through Tourism Selangor, is committed to exploring the opportunities and further leveraging in sports and golf tourism. They are a key contributor towards fuelling the state’s economy through domestic tourism. Golf’s massive fanbase in the state and nationwide acts as a catalyst to creating an influx of local sports tourists into the state. With the highest number of golf clubs in the country, it is not difficult to further penetrate the golf tourism segmentation. This is in line with Tourism Selangor’s Domestic Tourism Campaign, ‘Pusing Selangor Dulu’ which is growing in popularity among domestic travellers and making waves on social media.
