Green Races up Rankings After Joint Third Finish at the Saudi International
After a rewarding outing at the Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers, Malaysia’s Gavin Green has moved up to 11th on the Race to Dubai and 146th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Playing the final round with defending champion Dustin Johnson, Green posted a final 2-under 70 round to finish nine-under 271 for joint third spot with Belgian Thomas Pieters and five-time Major champion Phil Mickelson at the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club.
It was quite a ride for Green, who posted an eight-under 64 opening score for the first-round lead with the 2010 US Open Champion Graeme McDowell, the eventual champion. He shot a 67 on the second day to sit just one behind the leader setting for an interesting third round with his former college and roommate Victor Perez, who describes Green as a great talent with only a matter of time before the latter breaks through with a win.
Green’s joint third position is his best finish for 2020; he finished joint 27th at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, joint 21stat the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and joint 15th at the South African Open.
