The most recognised former champion of Hong Kong’s premier women’s golf tournament has confirmed her participation in the fifth edition of the EFG Hong Kong Ladies Open which tees off on Hong Kong Golf Club’s Old Course from 10-12 May this year.

Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching, a winner at her home club in 2016, will tee it up as part of a 120-player field in the US$ 150,000 tournament which is sanctioned by the China LPGA Tour, Taiwan LPGA and Ladies Asian Golf Tour, and supported by the Hong Kong Professional Golfers’ Association and Hong Kong Golf Association.

Chan, who retained her LPGA Tour card this year following a challenging rookie year in 2018, will be returning home to compete in front of her home fans.

Speaking about the EFG Hong Kong Ladies Open, one of the highlights of her annual calendar, Chan said: “I’m very fortunate to be able to travel around the world to play golf but there is always something special about returning home to play, especially on a course I grew up on, surrounded by many familiar faces – my family, my friends, my fans, my Hong Kong. I obviously have some wonderful memories of winning in 2016 and what that win did for my career and will be doing my very best to do so again this year.

“Congratulations to Hong Kong Golf Club and EFG on the tournament’s five-year anniversary. The EFG Hong Kong Ladies Open is now a successful event and you are doing a fantastic job supporting women’s golf in Hong Kong. I look forward to many more years of it!”

Chan will be joined by Luiza Altmann of Brazil who returns to the tournament following her 2018 debut. The 21-year old, who turned professional in 2018, plays on the Ladies European Tour, the US-based Symetra Tour and Ladies Asian Golf Tour.

Altmann said: “I’m looking forward to going back to Hong Kong this May to compete in the EFG Hong Kong Ladies Open. Last year was the first time I played the tournament and while I struggled with some aspects of the course, it was an amazing experience for me in my first year playing as a tour professional. I’m sure it will be another strong field, with Tiffany playing at home and the Thai players always so strong, but I’m really looking forward to it. See you in May!”

2019 marks the third year of EFG’s title sponsorship of the tournament, and over a decade of support for EFG Global Sport Ambassador Chan on her academic and golf journeys, initially through the EFG Young Athletes’ Foundation.

Albert Chiu, Asia Pacific Chief Executive, EFG, commented: “EFG is to be title sponsor of the EFG Hong Kong Ladies Open for the third consecutive year, and we are extremely delighted to continue our partnership with the Hong Kong Golf Club to grow this magnificent event and to offer upcoming players an opportunity to pit their skills against seasoned professionals.

“EFG Bank, along with EFG Young Athletes Foundation, has been supporting talented young athletes for over a decade. We began our humble journey with a number of young golfers back in the mid-2000s.  Amongst them was Tiffany Chan who has since progressed. She is now a true ambassador for her sport. We have no doubt she will inspire more youngsters to follow in her footsteps with her passion and love for the sport.”

Martin Hadaway, Captain of Hong Kong Golf Club, said: “We are delighted to host the fifth edition of the EFG Hong Kong Ladies Open and to welcome Tiffany and Luiza back to Hong Kong Golf Club. Over the last four years, the tournament has established itself as one of the region’s premier golf tournaments dedicated to the development of talent in Asia and beyond.

“In what is another important year for the Club, as we celebrate our 130-year anniversary,  we look forward to seeing a full strength field take on the Old Course this May in what promises to be a great occasion for players, golf fans and the public alike.”

The three-day, 54-hole EFG Hong Kong Ladies Open features a prize purse of US$150,000. For further information on the 2019 EFG Hong Kong Ladies Open, please visit www.efghkladiesopen.com and follow @efghkladiesopen on Facebook and Instagram.
