Nanayama and Tee Crowned JGTA Champions
The final round of the JGTA Bogor Junior Championship hosted by Sentul Highlands Golf Club saw Jakarta’s local Kentaro Nanayama (2021) win the Boy’s Division. The youngster shot a final round score of 1-over-par 73 for a total of one-under-par 215, taking home the trophy. This is Nanayama’s first JGTA event and he has become the first player in JGTA history from Indonesia to win a JGTA event.
“I’d like to thank the JGTA for the good event this week, Sentul Highlands Golf Club for being a great host, Persatuan Golf Indonesia (PGI) for supporting this event, the AJGA for creating the pathway for the future (college golf) and my parents,” he said.
Pongsapak Laopakdee (2023) of Rayong, Thailand fired 36-40 for a final round score of 76 to take home second place. Gabriel Hansel Hari (2022) of Tangerang, Indonesia matched Laopakdee’s final round score of 76 to finish in third place.
In the Girl’s Division, Mariel Isabella Tee (2020) of Pasig City, Philippines shot 36-37 for a final round score of 1-over-par 73 and a total winning score of 6-over-par 222. With this win, Tee also becomes the first JGTA winner from her country in JGTA history.
“I wanted to thank my parents for supporting me, the JGTA, AJGA, Persatuan Golf Indonesia (PGI), and Sentul Highlands Golf Club for a great tournament experience. This win means a lot to me,” she says.
2018 JGTA Bintan Lagoon Junior Championship presented by Tradewinds Furnishings Singapore winner Amy Gao (2021) of Shanghai, China took home second place with a final round score of 2-over-par 74. Yulin Chen (2021) of Guangzhou, China finished third with a final round score of 6-over-par 78.
The next event on the JGTA schedule, the JGTA Hong Kong Junior Classic at Clearwater Bay presented by Selina Li, takes place February 20-22, 2019.
