PGM CCM Championship to be Decided Over 54 Holes

Officials were forced to shorten the PGM CCM Championship to 54 holes due to several weather delays during the week.

The third round of the RM225,000 (approximately US$58,000) Asian Development Tour (ADT) event, which got underway at 2.45 pm local time on Friday, was suspended at 4.35pm due to inclement weather and was abandoned for the day at 5.30pm.

Malaysia’s Wilson Choo currently leads the way on an eight-under-par 136 total after recording an even-par 72 in his second round.

The 29-year-old Choo only managed to play one hole during his third round and will be amongst the 56 players who will return to the Kota Seriemas Golf and Country Club at 7.30am on Saturday to complete their third and final round.

With more than 12 hours of play lost due to inclement weather in three days, the tournament committee has decided to reduce the tournament to 54 holes.

“The tournament has been affected by lengthy rain delays throughout the week. As a result, we have decided to reduce the tournament to 54 holes. The decision was made in the best interest of the tournament and our members,” said Fritz Katzengruber, Asian Tour Tournament Director.

Choo, hoping to break a three-year title drought since he last won at the PGM LADA Langkawi Championship in 2015, was delighted to be in pole position to win his second ADT title after mixing his card with five birdies, three bogeys and one double-bogey in his second round.

“I started out good and then I had two bad holes in a row which messed up my momentum. I made a couple of errors today and the delays were frustrating but also expected. But I am still in a good position and I am going to keep calm and play it one hole at a time,” said Choo, who enjoyed two top-10s on the ADT this season.

The PGM CCM Championship is the 19th leg of the ADT schedule and the second event this season to be reduced to 54-holes due to inclement weather.

The leading seven players on the ADT Order of Merit at the end of the season will earn playing rights on the Asian Tour for the 2019 season.
