Thailand’s Donlaphatchai Niyomchon signed for a three-under-par 69 to take the second-round clubhouse lead before play was suspended at the PGM CCM Championship on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Thai, who opened his campaign with a 71, was lucky to finish his second round as multiple weather delays since round one continued to affect play at the Kota Seriemas Golf and Country Club.

Earlier in the morning, Malaysia’s Wilson Choo returned to complete the first round with a stunning 64. He will be among the 85 players who will return at 7.30am on Friday to finish round two at the RM225,000 (approximately US$58,000) Asian Development Tour (ADT) event.

Play was abandoned at 4.43 pm local time due to lightning threats and only 17 players completed their rounds. Round three is scheduled to start no earlier than 2.45pm with the same groupings.

Donlaphatchai completed 25 holes today after returning to finish his first round in the morning. He was delighted to give himself a fighting chance for the title following a second round 69 highlighted by six birdies against three bogeys to move to four-under-par 140 total.

“I am feeling very tired from playing 25 holes today so I am glad to be done. The weather has been so bad but I am staying focused on my game.

“I putted well today and I am striking my irons well so I gave myself a lot of chances for birdies. I made a 25-footer on hole seven which gave me a confidence boost after my two bogeys. I will just keep doing what I am doing for the next two days and see where it goes,” added Donlaphatchai.

The bespectacled Choo hopes to continue the momentum when he returns to complete his round on Friday.

“I was frustrated that I could not finish my round yesterday (Wednesday) and only played one hole this morning, but I just told myself to stay calm and get the job done,” said Choo, who is aiming to end his three-year title drought on the ADT.

The leading seven players on the ADT Order of Merit at the end of the season will earn playing rights on the Asian Tour for the 2019 season.

All ADT events are afforded with Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points with the winner earning a minimum of six OWGR points while the top-six players and ties earn points on a sliding scale.
