AUSM’s Awesome Charity Golf Day at The Mines
The inaugural AUSM “Awesome” Trophy Charity Golf Tournament 2018 held on 29 September 2018 at the The Mines Resort & Golf Club brought together 76 corporate sponsors, entrepreneurs and USM Alumni members from Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Terengganu, Kelantan, and Sarawak for a day of golf, networking, and fundraising.
Organised by the Johor Golf Tourism Association (JGTA), the event was also graced by Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) Chancellor DYMM Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail.
The one-day charity tournament kickstarts USM’s 50th anniversary, which will be in 2019. According to Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli A. Razak, the President of Persatuan Alumni USM, as well as the Organising Chairman of the AUSM Trophy, the charity event rolls out the ‘Road to USM50 celebration programmes and activities.
Professor Tan Sri Dzulkifli said, “The tournament is a perfect start to roll out our USM50 Celebrations which will be celebrated in October 2019. It has been an epic 50-year journey for USM with numerous milestones and achievements. This charity golf tournament is definitely an ideal meeting point for many of our USM Alumni members to reconvene, reconnect and re-establish networking among them. Not only that, this tournament is also a golden opportunity for the USM Alumni members to meet new people from the industry to start a good networking amongst them.”
He further added, “We are very delighted to receive a very good response from our USM Alumni members as well as the industry players from all over the country who had responded to our plight to tee-up to raise funds on the greens for USM Special Needs Children Funding Programme and Persatuan Alumni USM. We hope that the AUSM Trophy will grow to generate more funds in the coming years.”
The Persatuan Alumni USM’s noble intention in organising the inaugural AUSM Trophy Charity Golf Tournament is to raise funds for the USM Special Needs Children Funding Programme for Autism, Deafness, Blindness, Downs, Learning Disabilities, and Cerebral Palsy, as well as the upgrading and renovation work of the Persatuan Alumni USM “Awesome House” which is located at a prime spot on the main campus in Penang.
The golfers teed-off in the afternoon and played for some very lucrative prizes. It was fun in the sun for everyone playing on the Robert Trent Jones Jr golf course. Hospitality buggies went around to ensure thirsty golfers were served with chilled M7 drinks, coconut water and bananas to ensure they kept their energy levels up.
