Local Course Knowledge Helps Jung Bag the Gross Title in the Prudential Astro Masters Third Qualifying Round

The third qualifying round of the Prudential Astro Masters (PAM) saw participants have a fun and exciting round of golf in cool climes at the 6735-yard Templer Park Country Club.

Jung Young Guk, a member of the club who plays off a scratch handicap, used his local knowledge to bag the gross title.

Jung returned with an even-par 72 with rounds of 35 on the first nine, and 37 on the back nine at the Jumbo Ozaki and Kentaro Santo-designed course. The Korean who has been a member of Templer Park for the past three years will be joined by Nett Champion Peter Chandran on the flight to the Grand Final in Phnom Penh.

“I am very happy to have won and for making it to the Grand Final in Cambodia,” said Jung who also won the Templer Park’s Club Championship recently. “My win is also a surprise because I hardly get to play here.”

PAM Organising Chairman, P. Jeganathan said, “Jung’s gross score in today’s qualifying round reflects the high level of amateur golfers that participate in the Prudential Astro Masters yearly. We would like to congratulate Jung and Peter for making it to the Grand Final in Phnom Penh.”

In the Novelty category, Asri Malek produced an almost perfect tee shot on the Nearest-to-Line hole at the par-4, 385-yard 14thhole. His drive came to rest 7-inches from the line.

For the third time in a row in this year’s PAM, the Longest Drive winner of the day was the gross champion. Jung Yong Guk drove it pure on Hole 5 to record a monster drive of 293.3 yards to win a golf shaft sponsored by Vin Golf.

Meanwhile, the Sure-to-Win prize was won by Ramesh Sundram. His tee shot on the 180-yard par-3, 11thhole was the closest at 6 feet and 5 inches.

The luckiest of the Lucky Draw winners’ was Asogan Arumugam won the Grand Lucky Draw prize of a Titoni watch worth RM3,700.

This year the two-day Grand Final travels to Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the battle for the Champion of the Year will be held at the Grand Phnom Golf Club and Garden City Golf Club.
