The 44th edition of the RSGC Ladies Amateur Open, which will be held from August 10-12, 2018 has attracted the region’s top players due to its high ranking by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). The tournament, since 2017, has been ranked third in Malaysia after the 2017 Sea Games and the Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open.

“This means, we are ranked the number one private ladies amateur golf tournament in the country. This is an amazing statistic and one of which we are justifiably proud. The WAGR Ranking means that we are a counting event, and ambitious female amateur golfers receive points for participating in our event,” said Dato’ Yasmin Yusuff, the Organising Chair of the tournament.

The 3-day tournament, which will be played on the East Course (first nine of the Old Course and second nine of the New Course), is expecting participants from Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei and for the first time players from Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka and the national team from Bangladesh.

The annual championship attracts some of the most talented women in the sport, many of whom are recognised on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. The Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking system lists the top female amateur golfers around the world on the basis of their average performance in Counting Events, such as the RSGC Ladies Amateur Open (a Category D event).

Dato Yasmin added, “We are particularly passionate about inspiring and emboldening youth to explore their golfing potential and I’m proud to say that in recent years, we have seen an increase in participation by junior golfers. The RSGC Ladies Amateur Open establishes Kuala Lumpur as an important launch pad for rising talent and lends to the growth of the game by continuing to attract the best regional amateurs in this field,” she added.

The players will compete for the four trophies namely the Tuanku Bahiyah (Gross Champion), Toh Puan Norashikin (Nett Champion), Datin Azian (Team Gross Champion) and Clarissa Lee (Team Nett Champion). The event is open to amateur players with a USGA handicap of 17.4 and lower.

The event is being held in conjunction with the RSGC’s 125th Anniversary and to mark the significant occasion, the RSGC unveiled its first ever tournament logo as well.
