Colin Montgomerie Makes Staysure PGA Seniors Championship Debut
Victorious 2010 Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie is set to tee it up at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship at London Golf Club from August 2-5.
Montgomerie, one of the stars of world golf and two-time Staysure Tour Order of Merit winner, will make his debut in the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship when the event returns to the schedule after a three-year absence.
The 54-year-old Scot will feature in the inaugural edition of the PGA Seniors Championship under the new title sponsorship of Staysure, who also became umbrella sponsors of the European Senior Tour at the start of 2018.
“I am thoroughly looking forward to playing in the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, especially as I will be making my debut at the event,” said Montgomerie, who won a hat-trick of PGA Championships on the European Tour from 1998-2000.
“I really enjoy playing on the Staysure Tour and only managed to play once on European soil last season, so to get the chance to compete several times on the Tour in the United Kingdom and Europe is exciting.”
Montgomerie, a three-time Major Champion since turning 50, will test his skill and craft on the International Course at London Golf Club, where golf’s legends will battle it out across the four-round event.
Inaugurated in 1957, the PGA Seniors Championship has been won by some of the all-time greats, including Major winners Max Faulkner, Kel Nagle and Peter Thomson along with the Staysure Tour’s Carl Mason and Tommy Horton.
Sam Torrance, like Montgomerie a successful Ryder Cup captain, won the tournament at Carden Park in 2005 and defended his title at Stoke-by-Nayland the following year.
Meanwhile, Montgomerie is looking forward to the second of two wonderful weeks of Senior golf in the UK when he arrives at The London Golf Club following The Senior Open Presented by Rolex at the Old Course, St Andrews.
“There has already been a lot of hard work put in by the terrific team at London Golf Club for what will be a superb event, and I am very much looking forward to the challenge of the course and the competition,” Montgomerie said.
