The Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) will hold its third event of the season at Laguna Golf Phuket in Thailand from April 17-20, 2018. It will be the JGTA’s first stop in Thailand.

The JGTA Phuket Junior Open will be a three-day, 54-hole stroke-play event featuring 78 of the top-ranked junior golfers in Asia. The field is expected to include AJGA champions and multiple players who have already signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play golf at an American University.

The JGTA is the sanctioning body in Asia for American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Performance Based Entry (PBE) Status, providing junior golfers the opportunity to build their AJGA PBE Status by competing in JGTA tournaments held in Asia.

This year marks the JGTA’s historic first season, and the first time ever that junior golfers in Asia can build AJGA PBE Status regionally, by competing in JGTA events. The JGTA has held two events thus far in the 2017-2018 season, in Bintan, Indonesia, and Miaoli, Taiwan.

The JGTA Phuket Junior Open represents a pivotal moment for players’ rankings in the JGTA Junior Order of Merit – the source for AJGA PBE Status in Asia. A player’s rank in the JGTA Junior Order of Merit at the end of the season (May) will dictate their AJGA PBE Status earnings, and with a tight race thus far many players find themselves in a position to move up or down significantly pending the results of the JGTA Phuket Junior Open.
