Tiger Woods’ First Public Golf Course Honours the Late Payne Stewart

Payne’s Valley will be the first public TGR Design golf course in the United States, a 7,300-yard layout that honors the late Payne Stewart. The layout will be set among the majestic Ozark Mountains near the Big Cedar Lodge in southwestern Missouri.

Woods is aiming for a championship-caliber yet family-friendly design that will allow golfers of all skill levels to enjoy the game and the beautiful natural setting.

Tiger-Woods and Johnny Morris announce plans for the Woods designed course

The design includes dramatic exposed rock outcroppings, bold mountain ridges, sweeping valleys, pristine streams, and beautiful mature trees, creating a memorable backdrop for the 18-hole golf course. One of the main characteristics of the layout will be the wide sprawling fairways, which will allow players to play a strategic game as well challenge the more experienced players.

Wood said of the turf condition, “Brown is okay. It doesn’t have to be perfectly green. I want the ball running, I want it traveling, I want it moving on the ground. We have some amazing elevation changes, some amazing slopes and I think we can create some interesting options and enjoyment for a lot of players.”

Once completed, Payne’s Valley will complement the expansive amenities at the premiere wilderness resort and family destination located in Ridgedale, Missouri.

The world-class course will conclude on the spectacular 19th hole designed by Johnny Morris, Bass Pro Shops, and Big Cedar Lodge Founder. The striking par three hole plays to an island green surrounded by streams and waterfalls flowing down exposed rock walls to close the round. Payne’s Valley is scheduled to open in 2019.
